About the event

Learn to truly “see” your knitting and understand exactly what’s happening on your needles.

If you’ve ever picked up your work and wondered, “What on earth did I do there?”, this relaxed discussion-based class with Jaime Dorfman is the perfect next step in your knitting journey.

In this workshop, Jaime will guide you through the fundamentals of reading your knitted fabric: understanding stitch anatomy, identifying increases and decreases, spotting mistakes early and learning simple strategies for counting rows with confidence. You’ll discover how to interpret your work visually, giving you greater control, clarity and ease as you knit. No more guessing or second-guessing. You’ll walk away feeling empowered to handle your knitting with a whole new level of understanding.

This workshop is suitable for knitters of all levels, whether you’re brand new and looking to build strong foundations or you’ve been knitting for years and want to deepen your technical skills. If you’re ready to knit more confidently, catch mistakes sooner and feel more connected to your craft, this class will transform the way you approach every project.

About the facilitator

Jaime is a 25-year-old award-winning independent knitwear designer from Melbourne, Australia.

Spending her entire childhood in dance classes and competitions, school musicals, singing lessons and concerts, Jaime has always considered herself a creative person. However, it wasn’t until 2018, after she finished school, that Jaime discovered her passion for making her own clothes when she learned to crochet. She picked up knitting a year later, and soon after, Jaime Creates was born!

Joining the online knitting community on Instagram enabled Jaime to share her work with the world and develop her style, giving her the confidence to start designing her own unique, colourful pieces and patterns. In 2024, Jaime's first pattern book Fast and Fabulous Knits: 18 Speedy Sweater and Top Patterns for Busy Knitters was published. Jaime also loves supporting her fellow designers in the online community and regularly purchases and test-knits patterns written by other designers.

Jaime is passionate about conscious consumption and sustainability, therefore, knitting not only serves as a creative outlet and a mindfulness practice for her, but has also empowered her to heavily reduce her consumption of fast fashion. Jaime is a proud feminist and has completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Gender Studies. In her spare time, when she’s not knitting, Jaime enjoys playing guitar, belting her favourite Taylor Swift jams, roller skating and (guiltily) going yarn shopping.
