About the event

Learn how you can design your own shawl, how to start, in what direction to work and how to listen to your yarn once you have decided on its purpose. Start designing shawls in this workshop and never finish with ideas.


This workshop is for crocheters with confidence in the basic stitches.


What you will learn

  • How to design your own crochet shawl

  • What direction to work in

  • How to listen to your yarn in crochet pattern designs

Materials and tools

  • 3 light weight colours of DK weight yarn for creating samples (50g of each colour)

  • Any unique or interesting yarns that you may wish to experiment with

  • Assorted hook sizes to suit the yarns and one 8mm hook with which to experiment

  • Any design photos printed out and brought to class for inspiration

Pre-requisite skills

Confidence in basic crochet stitches

What's included

  • 3 hours of expert instruction from internationally renowned workshop facilitator Jenny King of Jenny King Designs in a class of a maximum of ten participants

  • Printed handout

  • Morning tea including a light snack and tea and coffee

  • VIP 2-day pass to the Australian Yarn Show from March 8th to 9th at Hotel Realm including:

    • Australian Yarn Show 2025 Show bag

    • One coffee voucher per day (Saturday and Sunday) for barista coffee cart

    • One digital access pass to all the talks on the main stage


Please note that the digital access pass will not be activated until a couple of weeks after the conclusion of the Show.

About the facilitator

Designer, author and qualified teacher, Jenny is the founder, director and CEO of Jenny King Designs.


Her achievements include the following:


- Self-published 13 books from 1999-2003

- Wrote 7 patterns books and 2 videos for Annies USA, including technique books for Bavarian Crochet, Solomons Knot & Star Stitch

- Taught at 20 Knit and Crochet conferences since 1999

- Guest speaker and presenter at Stitches events Crochet Renaissance in USA

- Initiated the establishment of the Crochet Guild Australia, President and Director of Education

- Created and trademarked the revolutionary online course Get Squared

- Jennys designs have featured in every English-speaking Crochet magazine worldwide since 2001

- Published 600 designs


Jenny specialises in crochet wearables, innovative designs and size inclusivity.
